The Diabetes Prevention Program is a year-long program created by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to help reduce the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes. This program is designed for people who qualify as having pre-diabetes, and is at no cost to participants!!!
People who qualify for this program are:
- Over age 18 AND
- BMI of 24 kg/m 2 or greater OR
- History of gestational diabetes OR
- Positive lab test result in the past 12 months
- HbA1C 5.7-6.4%
- FPG 100-125 mg/dl
- OGTT 140-199 mg/dl
Program Information: Classes are one hour in length. Classes will meet once per month for a check-in and discussion.
Curriculum: The Diabetes Prevention Program is focused on lifestyle interventions that will help individuals lose weight, lower their A1C, and ultimately reduce the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes. Classes are geared toward learning about the content of food, how to eat healthy with variety, cooking tips, how to handle the holidays, physical activity barriers, and making active choices. Participants will be weighed at each class.
